{"id":974,"date":"2019-05-14T10:41:30","date_gmt":"2019-05-14T06:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.5flor.ru\/?p=974"},"modified":"2019-05-14T10:42:14","modified_gmt":"2019-05-14T06:42:14","slug":"linux-efi-boot-order","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.5flor.ru\/?p=974","title":{"rendered":"Linux EFI boot order"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If after installing Linux Mint in EFI mode, your computer skips the boot menu and boots straight into Windows (or another operating system), you probably have an issue with the boot order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To modify the boot order:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Boot Linux Mint in&nbsp;<code>live<\/code>&nbsp;mode (with your USB stick or DVD).<\/li><li>Open a terminal.<\/li><li>Type&nbsp;<code>sudo&nbsp;efibootmgr<\/code>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>This command lists the available boot options and the boot order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io\/en\/latest\/_images\/efibootmgr.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io\/en\/latest\/_images\/efibootmgr.png\" alt=\"_images\/efibootmgr.png\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the screenshot above, there are three boot options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><code>ubuntu<\/code>&nbsp;at&nbsp;<code>0000<\/code><\/li><li><code>linuxmint<\/code>&nbsp;at&nbsp;<code>0001<\/code><\/li><li><code>Mac&nbsp;OS&nbsp;X<\/code>&nbsp;at&nbsp;<code>0081<\/code><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The boot order is&nbsp;<code>0081<\/code>. This indicates that the computer only tries to boot Mac OS and not Linux Mint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Important<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For technical reasons Linux Mint uses&nbsp;<code>ubuntu<\/code>&nbsp;as its EFI boot name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>To fix the boot order, type&nbsp;<code>sudo&nbsp;efibootmgr&nbsp;--bootorder&nbsp;XXXX,YYYY<\/code>&nbsp;(where&nbsp;<code>XXXX<\/code>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<code>YYYY<\/code>&nbsp;are the operating system boot options you want to boot).<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io\/en\/latest\/_images\/efibootmgr-2.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/linuxmint-installation-guide.readthedocs.io\/en\/latest\/_images\/efibootmgr-2.png\" alt=\"_images\/efibootmgr-2.png\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the screenshot above,&nbsp;<code>sudo&nbsp;efibootmgr&nbsp;--bootorder&nbsp;0000,0081<\/code>&nbsp;instructs the computer to first try to boot Linux Mint (<code>ubuntu<\/code>&nbsp;being the EFI boot name for Linux Mint), and then Mac OS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Restart the computer.<\/li><\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If after installing Linux Mint in EFI mode, your computer skips the boot menu and boots straight into Windows (or another operating system), you probably have an issue with the boot order.
